My teenage daughter who is home this weekend was feeling a little nostalgic, I believe, because she requested that I make people chow for her. It’s a sweet, delicious treat made from breakfast cereal.

1 cup peanut butter

1/2 cup butter

12 oz pkg semisweet chocolate chips

1 tsp vanilla

13 cup box of Crispix cereal

3 cups powdered sugar

1. Combine butter, peanut butter, and chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl.

2. Microwave for one minute then stir to blend all ingredients thoroughly. Microwave in 30 second increments, stirring after each until all is melted and combined.  Add vanilla. Stir well.

3. Place Crispix cereal in a very large bowl. I use a large, non-stick dutch oven pan.

4. Pour the peanut butter and chocolate mixture over the cereal and toss evenly, making sure all the cereal is covered.

5. Place the powdered sugar in a large zip top bag.

6. Add the peanut butter and chocolate cereal mixture into the bag. Allow enough room to shake the people chow. You may have to do this in two batches so be sure to remember to split up the powdered sugar.

7. Shake the bag vigorously to evenly coat each piece of the people chow with powdered sugar.

8. I usually spread my mixture out on a sheet pan to dry a bit before storing.
